The west end of Galveston Island (Public Beach Entrance #32 between Terramar and Bay Harbor beaches) for in person walk and talk/toes in the sand beach sessions. Online throughout the states of Texas and Michigan.
-
My office hours are as follows.
Tuesdays: 11:30am—5:30pm EST (10:30am—4:30pm CST). My last appointment is 4:30pm EST.
Wednesdays and Thursdays: 10:30am—7:30pm EST (9:30am—6:30pm CST). My last appointment is 6:30pm EST.
When scheduling as a new patient, the agreed-upon time is your assigned time each week or every other week. This means I do not give this time to anyone else. It also means I have limited flexibility for rescheduling each week, but you will know far in advance when your appointments are to avoid any scheduling conflicts.

Online therapy is just like in-person therapy, except you can do it from wherever works best for you. Sessions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform you will log into at your designated appointment time. After completing the required new patient documents via the link provided to you, I will provide you with the meeting number for you to join the Zoom meeting at the time of your appointment. Simply click the “Join Meeting” box when you log into Zoom and use the meeting number provided. This will automatically bring you to my confidential waiting room.

In Texas, I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I do not bill insurance. I am happy to offer you the necessary paperwork (superbill) to file with your insurance provider for possible partial or full reimbursement. My fee for a 50-minute session is $185.00.
In Michigan, I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, HAP, Aetna, and Tricare. For all other insurances in Michigan, I am an out-of-network provider. I am happy to offer you the necessary paperwork (superbill) to file with your insurance provider for possible partial or full reimbursement.
Please know that not all insurance plans offer reimbursement and that some may have a deductible or an allowable amount. It is best to call the number on the back of your insurance card and speak to a representative about what your specific benefits are. I'm happy to talk this through with you at any time.
If you could choose to see me on a private-pay basis, my full private pay fee for a 50-minute session is $185.00.

A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a document that provides you with a clear breakdown of the expected costs of your therapy sessions. It is part of the No Surprises Act, designed to help clients better understand and plan for the financial aspects of their care.
If you are a self-pay client (not using insurance), you have the right to receive a GFE that outlines:
The cost of your therapy sessions.
An estimate of how frequently we might meet based on your needs and goals.
The total estimated cost of care over a specified period of time.
This estimate is not a binding contract; it’s a tool to give you transparency and help you make informed financial decisions about therapy. Of course, the actual cost of your care may vary depending on changes in the frequency or duration of sessions, or if new goals are identified.
The following will also be provided to you in document form when you complete your intake as a new client:
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.
In the state of Texas, Living Lotus Counseling LLC is not in-network with any health insurance plans and is therefore considered out-of-network. This means the provider or facility does not have an agreement with your plan to provide services.
Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
If you have any questions about the GFE or would like to discuss it further, I will be happy to walk you through it.

Our first session is about making sure we’re a good fit. You’ll tell me what’s bringing you in, I’ll ask some questions, and you’ll get a feel for how I work. Sessions vary based on what you need each week; we’ll talk about what’s going on in your life now and what’s shaped you along the way, exploring the patterns that are helping you—and the ones that aren’t.
We’ll talk about feelings (yes, those), look at where your beliefs and behaviors come from, and whether they’re actually contributing to the kind of life you want. I’ll offer tools when it makes sense and refer you out if we need extra support from medical or psychiatric providers.
For therapy to be most successful, it works best if we meet regularly, typically weekly, at the start of our work together. As you begin feeling better, we may meet less regularly.

On the occasion that you need to reach me between sessions about scheduling, payment, or other administrative needs, you may email me at jriggs@livinglotuscounseling.net or call, or text my office phone number 313-744-4081 and leave a message. It will usually be shorter, but the response time could take up to 48 hours.
Please note that I do not provide on-call crisis services. In the event of a medical or mental health crisis or emergency call or text 988 for the National Suicide & Crisis Line. Or chat at 988lifeline.org.
If you have an immediate emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
-
Please email, text, or call 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you are within the 24 hour window for cancellation, you will be charged $135. Please ask me about my cancellation/missed appointment practice policy if you have more questions.
I understand that emergencies happen, and in those cases, I may be able to reschedule your session based on availability. If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible—this helps me accommodate other clients who may be waiting for an appointment.

Yes, therapy is a confidential space where you can share openly and feel safe. What we discuss in our sessions stays between us, as confidentiality is essential for building trust and supporting your healing process.
However, there are a few legal exceptions where I am required to break confidentiality:
If you express a clear intent to harm yourself or someone else, and there is an immediate risk.
If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child.
If a court orders the release of therapy records or testimony.
These situations are rare, and if an issue occurs that may require me to break confidentiality, I will do my best to discuss it with you beforehand and provide support throughout the process. My priority is always to maintain your privacy while ensuring safety and well-being.

We’ll just be two people talking and walking/sitting on the beach. There’s no way anyone can tell the difference between people talking in a therapy session and friends chatting. If you see someone you know during a session, you can or can’t choose to introduce me and how. I’ll follow your lead. The waves, sand and breeze work like noise blockers – others are focused on the beach, while we focus on you living fully. Learn more about Walk & Talk Therapy here.
